It is the eve of Barack Hussein Obama Jnr.'s inauguration as the 44th President of the United States of America. For the optimist there is a ray of light in this dark and gloomy world that a saviour has been found and that if he, with his extensive experience and varied heritage, cannot steer a better course then there is little hope that anyone else can. However, no matter how good he is, even with strong women by his side such as his wife Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, Barack will have a steep mountain to climb.
My thoughts are particularly with his children. Yes there will be security and privilege but there will also always be intrusion and days free from threat to the first family will be forgotten. What sacrifices will this family make so that Barack can pursue his dream and is it fair to Malia and Natasha?
Tomorrow a new day will begin and I do hope that Barack can fulfil some of his promises, not least in bringing some peace to our troubled times. I only hope that the cost to this young family does not prove to be too high.
